1:40 PM Learning Lab: Redesigning Onboarding as If That Were Your Problem to Solve

When half of the people who walk through the door in the first three months walk back out, the conversation cannot stay in recruiting. Onboarding failure is almost always a design problem and most organizations are still treating it as an orientation problem, a paperwork problem, or a compliance problem rather than the highest-leverage moment in the entire employee lifecycle. A working lab where participants audit their own onboarding architecture, identify the three moments where new hires most consistently disengage, and prototype a redesign for the highest-risk window before leaving the room.

- Map the specific decision points in the first 30, 60, and 90 days where new hires form their judgment about whether the organization is keeping the promises made during the hiring process — and where that judgment most commonly turns negative
- Build social integration, role clarity, and manager connection into the structural design of onboarding rather than leaving all three to chance, individual manager quality, and whether a new hire happens to be proactive about seeking them out
- Design a measurement approach that surfaces onboarding quality problems inside the first 30 days — before exit interviews and 90-day attrition data become the only evidence available, at which point the cost has already been paid
