Richard Henry

Head of School GEMS World Academy

Richard Henry has worked in education for 31 years, beginning his career in the state and private education systems of Queensland, Australia. In 2000, Richard moved to Jakarta, Indonesia and worked there for 11 years as Secondary School Principal and then Head of School. During this time, the school implemented the IB programmes (DP, MYP and PYP). Richard moved to The Hague, The Netherlands in 2011 as the IB Head of School Services for Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and later was the IB Head of Development and Recognition working with government ministries and higher education institutions. In July 2015, Richard moved to Washington DC, USA and took up the role as Director of IB Global School Services and was responsible for the design and implementation of the IB’s core services of programme authorization and evaluation for over 4500 schools. The Director role also included oversight of the development of school enhancement services and management of the IB's relations with accreditation bodies such as CIS, NEASC and WASC. Currently he is the Head of School at GEMS World Academy (Singapore) which is now in its fifth year and was recently authorised for the IBCP so that it is the first and only four programme IB school in Singapore.
