Lya currently leads the highly engaged Enterprise Instructional Design and Facilitation team. Prior to that, she led the Learning and Evaluations team measuring the business impact L&D is having on the organization, most recently winning Excellence in L&D Measurement, 2018, from Center for Talent Reporting. Prior to her current role, Lya led the talent management programs, helping employees create meaningful careers at USAA, developing corporate skills strategy as foundation to talent development. Lya started her career with USAA in 2007 in HR as Director of Instructional Design and has held various roles in HR, mostly focused around her passion, talent and career development. Prior to USAA, Lya had more than 20 years’ experience in Talent and Leadership Development and HR. Seven of those years she spent as an organizational development consultant implementing sales cultures in the financial industry, where she served as Vice President. As a consultant, she helped transform cultures at Lloyds, TSB in the UK, Banorte in Mexico, Bancolombia in Colombia and more. In addition to the finance industry, Lya also came to USAA with eight years in the contact center industry and worked with The Schwans Food Company at the time when Schwans University was honored with the prestigious ATD BEST number one and number two ranking by ATD and by Corporate University Xchange. Lya earned a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Memphis, a master in Psychology from University of Phoenix. She is also a Certified Performance Technologist, maintains her SPHR and a certificate in Organizational Development from DePaul University. Lya is originally from Nicaragua. She also lived in Peru where she met her husband Eric. Eric and Lya have two children: Sebastian and Samantha. As a family, they love traveling and are involved with Sam's Covers, a non-profit organization that delivers hand-made blankets to children at risk. Sam's Covers, a 501c, was founded by Samantha when she was twelve years old.
